Kaoly Asano is one of the most extraordinary personalities in the taiko world and has created a taiko style that is equally modern, authentic, and timeless. As founder of the internationally successful taiko band GOCOO and the taiko school TAWOO in Tokyo, which has hundreds of members, she has been captivating fans and admirers worldwide since 1997 who appreciate her skills as a taiko player, band leader, inspiring teacher, and vibrant bundle of energy.
She has developed a distinctive approach to taiko that blends tradition with innovation — a style known as "tribal taiko" or "groove taiko" that draws its energy from human connection and our roots. With GOCOO, Kaoly has performed at major international festivals including the SZIGET Festival (Europe's largest music event) and contributed to soundtracks for blockbuster films such as "The Matrix Reloaded“.
Kaoly believes that through taiko, one is able to move freely and fully express themselves, and she continues to share this message everywhere she goes.
ELEVEN was born in the year 2011 at the time of the great natural disaster in Japan, that took the lives of many people. This piece is very special, and it transports much more than just a beautiful "choreography" and an intense rhythm. Read more in Kaoly’s message about ELEVEN.
ELEVEN expresses hope and the feelings for the future based on the experiences with the disaster. Kaoly's way of teaching and drumming is very visual and easy to follow.
